Last fall I asked the leadership of the University of Iowa Foundation and University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) to form a committee to explore ways that the two organizations could more closely align to deliver world-class awareness, engagement and support for the University of Iowa.

The committee, comprised of four members representing the UIF Board and the UIAA Board, as well as select staff, has spent the past few months discussing opportunities, meeting with stakeholders across campus and gathering feedback. I would like to thank them for their time and hard work. After reviewing the committee’s recently provided report and recommendations, it is my intention to create one, new, unified organization. Because of their overlapping missions and aspirations, a unified, comprehensive organization will allow us to better serve the university for decades to come.

While we have a clear vision, there is much work to do. I have asked Lynette Marshall, UI Foundation president and CEO, to lead the new organization and requested that the UI Foundation and UIAA Boards address unification in the coming months. Thank you for your support and patience as we work through the details of the new structure, which is a proven approach at many of our peer institutions. By creating a new organization together, the university will leverage the strengths and expertise of both, resulting in more meaningful alumni engagement and increased philanthropic support.
