Dear Hawkeye faculty, staff, and students:

Next week is Fall Break, and many of us will be gathering with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving. I have much to be thankful for this year, including how warmly the University of Iowa community has welcomed my husband, John, our dog, Ollie, and me. During the last several months, I have met with individuals and groups across campus, as well as throughout the community and state. In each and every case, I have been greeted with enthusiasm and excitement about our future.

I am also thankful for how that spirit of community support has allowed us to stay the course with our COVID-19 precautions and to offer our students a rich in-person Hawkeye experience. To our faculty, staff, and students, thank you for all you have done these past months to keep our campus safe.

Recently, you received notification that Governor Reynolds has approved two additional vacation days for state employees in appreciation for our hard work in the past year. I encourage you to take the time you need to be with your family and friends during the upcoming holiday season, as well as the time you need for yourself. Rest and renewal are crucial for well-being, so I urge you to take personal time to recharge.

Thank you again for a wonderful semester so far, and my very best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving.

Warmly,

Barbara J. Wilson

President
